5 Bde. Gr.-8°. Mit 180 fein kolorierten Kupferstichtafeln. Gesprenkelte Kalbslederbde. der Zeit mit 2 goldgepr. Rückenschildchen, reicher Rückenvergoldung von Fileten und Rauten sowie 2 Muschelstempeln, goldgepr. Deckelbordüren und Stehkantenvergoldung.

Prachtexemplar eines der schönsten englischen Muschelbücher mit sehr fein ausgeführten Abbildungen der Muscheln in ihrer Originalgrösse. Edward Donovan (1768-1837) schuf mehrere zoologische Werke auf verschiedenen Gebieten, die alle für ihr sehr sorgfältiges Kolorit bekannt geworden sind.– Vorliegend die seltene erste Ausgabe in einem dekorativ dekorativ gebundenem und sehr gut erhaltenem Exemplar aus einer einer englischen Adelsbibliothek mit deren mit gestochenem Exlibris. Papierbedingt stellenweise leicht gebräunt oder minimal stockfleckig, meist nur die zwischengebundenen Seidenpapiere betreffend.– Nissen ZBI 1147.
